AWRL6844EVM: Power Supply for DCA1000EVM via Radar Evaluation Module

Part Number: AWRL6844EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DCA1000EVM

Tool/software:

Hi TI Team,

we are currently preparing a measurement setup and would like to use the DC power jack on the AWRL6844EVM for supplying 12V power to the radar sensor, but also to the DCA1000EVM in order to capture raw data.

Looking at the schematics, we found that there is resistor (R30), which is not equipped by default on AWRL6844EVM, that would connect the output of the power load switch to the 60-pin adapter.

Is there a specific reason for not equipping the EVM with this resistor?

Are we safe soldering the resistor to the board and therefore supply power to both (AWRL6844EVM + DCA1000EVM).

Thanks in advance!

BR
Matthias

  • Hi, Matthias:

I am assigning your ticket to our hardware expert.  Please give a day for them to get back to you.

  • Any updates on this topic?

I have taken a closer look at the DCA1000 schematics and to me it looks like the voltage supplied via the 60-pin connector directly goes to buck down converters, that can take up to 20V of input voltage. So connecting the 12V supply coming from the AWRL6844EVM should be fine, right?

  • Hi MaWa,

Appreciate your patience very much. The provision of VSYS_IN to connect to DCA1000EVM via R20(DNP) on AWRL6844EVM is added in order to use DCA1000EVM with the AWRL6844EVM's supply. However, the DC-DC converters on DCA1000EVM are designed to generate the required voltages only when 5V input supply is used. Hence, these DC-DC converters on the DCA1000EVM cannot generate the required voltages to operate with 12V supply or any other supply voltage.

    Thanks,
    Deexith.
