IWR1843: Tx Backoff for Self-Calibration

Part Number: IWR1843

Tool/software:

Hello,

According to the document (Self-Calibration SPRACF4C),
I understand that it is recommended to set the Tx Backoff to 0dB when performing calibration.
Could you please explain the potential concerns if calibration is performed with Backoff settings other than 0dB?

Best regards,
Yasuaki

  • Hi Yasuaki,

It's best practice to configure the TX power to 0 dB backoff, allowing for the maximum signal strength during the calibration process. This is recommended to establish an accurate baseline for calibration. If a tx power backoff is applied during calibration then that calibration data may not be valid for lesser backoff values used in deployment.

    Best regards,

    Josh

  • Thank you for your response.

Based on your explanation, for example, if the backoff is set to 4dB during calibration,
does that mean it is acceptable to operate with the backoff also set to 4dB during deployment?

    Best regards,
    Yasuaki

  • Hi Yasuaki,

This should be acceptable. Can you let me know the reason 4dB backoff is required during calibration?

    Best regards,

    Josh
