IWRL6432BOOST: BPM MIMO Velocity

Part Number: IWRL6432BOOST

Tool/software:

Hello,

I'm capturing RAW ADC Data with the DCA1000 in BPM MIMO mode.

I programmed the signal chain myself.

I'm demodulating the ADC Data to the six virtuell antennas directly after I read the ADC Data in my programm.

I do Range, Doppler, Azimuth, Elevation FFT.

Now I want calculate the Velocity of the Target. I'm a little bit confused, because i think the maximum velocity I can see in my Range Doppler Map depends on doing Range Doppler about 3 RX antennas or doing about 6 virtuell antennas.

If I'm right, I'm able to measure a higher velocity about the 3 RX antennas than the 6 virtuell antennas.

Because when I'm not demodulating I have an effective higher chirprepetitionrate respectively a lower Chirp Repetition Period . I'm not sure if this distorted my results, because the phase is still mixed in the Chirps through BPM if im not demodulating.

  • Hello,

In general, the max Doppler is related to chirp interval. The longer you chirp for the better. If you have two chirps for TDM or BPM, they will have two-chirp-pattern (ABAB ...).  The chirp interval between (A to A) will be doubled, and their maximum non-ambiguous Doppler will be reduced by half. How high of a maximum doppler are you looking for?

  • I know that, and that is my Problem, because I need the MIMO Mode for the angle, but i also want to measue high velocitys like 40 - 50 m/s.

  • Hello,

It may be difficult to be able to have both high angle of arrival accuracy/resolution while also having a high velocity max speed using the 6432 due to only having the 3x2 antenna array and limited data. But can you be more specific on what exactly is your question?

    Best Regards,
