Hi team,

My customer Denso is looking for automotive inductive sensing solution to detect object/human proximity for in-cabin radiant heater. If anything is close to the heater it will turn heater off to prevent overheat.

They are still investigating the feasibility of different sensing technology, and they have a few questions for our inductive sensors. Could you help answer their questions below?

https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors-group/sensors/f/sensors-forum/295036/faq-inductive-sensing-faq---frequently-asked-questions?keyMatch=inductive+sensing&tisearch=universal_search&cf-support=TI+E2E%e2%84%a2+%e8%a8%ad%e8%a8%88%e3%82%b5%e3%83%9d%e3%83%bc%e3%83%88%e3%83%bb%e3%83%95%e3%82%a9%e3%83%bc%e3%83%a9%e3%83%a0

I saw this FAQ but please check if my understanding is correct or not.

1. What object can TI inductive sensor detect? - Only metal target? Denso want to detect things like towel, battery, spray can

2. What is the distance of TI inductive sensor can detect? - up to 50% of the sensor coil’s diameter?

3. Is there any rule of coil design? Denso want to design the coil at lowest height.

Thank you,

Muwei Zheng
