IWR6843ISK: Inquiry About TX Start Time Behavior in mmWave Sensing Estimator 2.4.0

Part Number: IWR6843ISK

Tool/software:

Hello,

I have a question regarding mmWave Sensing Estimator 2.4.0.

My question is about "TX Start Time" in the "Outputs and Chirp Design" section as shown in the figure below.

I am using the configuration file "68xx_traffic_monitoring_70m_MIMO_3D.cfg".
I loaded this file using "LOAD CONFIG (.CFG)" and clicked the "AUTO-POPULATE" button to import the parameter settings.

In this setup:

Idle Time (us) is set to 8

txStartTime is set to 1

It seems that txStartTime should not be larger than the Idle Time.
However, in mmWave Sensing Estimator 2.4.0, even if I set txStartTime to 10 or 100, no error occurs.

Is this a system error?

Also, could you explain the difference between setting txStartTime to 1 vs 0?

  • Hello,

txStartTime is the time between the start of transmitter, to the knee of the ramp. We almost always just set this value to 1, and tends to be a low impact parameter. The mmWaveSensingEstimator focus more on the valid start time, frequency bandwidth, and others, and is not perfect with catching errors.

    Best Regards,
