IWR6843AOP: UART Serial Detection Issue on Custom IWR6843AOP Board

Yes, the drivers appear to be correctly installed, as the EVM board is successfully getting flashed. However, our custom board is not being detected or flashed. Could there be any other factors causing this issue? Also, is it possible to perform a check or attempt flashing via JTAG to further isolate the problem?

Can you please probe and share the oscilloscope capture of TX and RX of UART; of your custom board compared to TI EVM?

Hi Ankit,

We tested both boards and captured the waveform for the IWR6843AOP EVM on the DSO, where we were able to observe both TX and RX data. However, when we connect the custom board, it shows the same issue "Image Loading Failed".

We tried with MX25R1635F Flash same used in the IWR6843AOP EVM Board, but still we are having the same problem. It shows the same error. "Image Loading Failed"

Hi Sreenath,

The QSPI Flash part used (W25Q16JVUXIQTR) is not compatible with mmWave device. Please use only TI recommended flash parts from below appnote.

Flash Variants Supported by the mmWave Sensor (Rev. G)

Please confirm if the QE bit is set to one for W25Q16JVUXIQTR. Image loading failed is due to NOR flash incompatibility. We have observed that few Winbond flash parts are not compatible even though the QE bit is set to 1. Hence, would recommend using only TI recommended flash parts from the appnote

Can you confirm if you are trying to load the image in flashing mode only? Are you seeing this across multiple boards? I would recommend replacing the QSPI flash on at least couple of boards to verify that this is not flash incompatibility issue.

VBGAP - 0.9V suggests device to wake up; communication on UART suggests the communication interface is alright. Please check if the device is in Flashing mode for image load to be sucessful.

We double checked the board and we have figured out that VBGAP is 0.03V and the clocks from the crystal is active.

If the VBGAP is 0.03V the device wake up has not happened. Hence, the image loading has failed. Could you please share the oscilloscope capture of SOP2,1,0 at the time of reset release (also the NRESET waveform). Please confirm if the below wake up sequence is followed.

Also, please confirm no external signal is driven prior to VIOIN being present. If any external signal/communication interface is driven externally that might result is power up failure.
