FDC2114EVM: Not connected

Tool/software:

I've installed the EVM GUI and driver and attached the USB cable to link my PC.

I can see the device in Device Manager listed as a USB Input Device (disappears if I disconnect the cable).

However, the GUI just shows 'Not Connected' in the lower left of the window.

I've tried on a Win10 PC and three different Win11 PCs and it's the same issue for all.

Do you know what could be the problem?

Lawrence,

I suspect your .NET is the latest version and the EVM needs an earlier version (3.5).

Please review the E2E thread LDC1101EVM: Sensing Solutions EVM GUI problems for a summary of actions to take.
The thread focusses on the LDC1101 EVM GUI, but it should apply to the FDC2114 EVM and GUI software.

If these actions don't correct the problem, please update this thread to let us know.

Hi John,

I have installed the 3.5 .NET Framework as suggested on the Win10 machine and restarted the PC.
It's still showing as Not Connected though.
Same on the Win11 machine, but that already had the 3.5 Framework installed.

Just to be sure, is it right for to the device to show under Human Interface Devices?
A lot of the forum threads mention expecting a virtual COM port, or is that just for older versions?

Lawrence,

You may need to select the COM port.

Please click on the COM port pull-down and select one of the COM ports in the list.
The graphic below shows what my system has.
It may take a little trial-and-error to find the right one if you have multiples that are listed.
COM20 ended up being the one that allowed the GUI to connect.

Hiya John,

Plugging the USB in doesn't add a COM port to the list, instead an additional USB Input Device under Human Interface Devices appears.
It looks like it might be a driver issue...
However, when I force a driver update to use the driver in the EVM Driver folder, Windows reports this:
'The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems.'

Path to the driver:
C:\Program Files\ti\Sensing Solutions EVM GUI-1.10.0\EVM Driver

That is the path to a different GUI.
The Sensing Solutions EVM GUI-1.10 is a GUI that supports other devices, like the LDC161x/131x, the FDC1004 and the FDC2x1y device families.

The LDC1101 has a dedicated GUI of its own, and it will have a different path that depends on its installation
For my installation the path to the Firmware folder is: C:/Program Files (x86)/Texas Instruments/LDC1101 EVM GUI/Firmware

Please try updating the firmware via the other path and let us know how it goes.
If that doesn't work, it may be worth doing an uninstall & re-install using the installer.snoc032.zip.

Ah!

Sorry Lawrence. My mistake.

Our software expert is OOO, but will be back tomorrow.

For now, the best advice I can offer is to an uninstall→reboot→re-install.
The GUI installer to use is the Sensing Solutions EVM GUI Tool v1.10.0.

Unfortunately, still no connection after uninstalling, rebooting and reinstallation.

Do you have security software running on your machine?
Some security apps can mess with the ability to connect via USB.

Sorry for the delayed reply.

I tried it on PCs with security software and PCs without.
I have given up now and just made my own board.
Thanks for the help though.
