TMAG5173-Q1: output with SENS266_A2

Part Number: TMAG5173-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMAG5170

Tool/software:

Hi team,

I would like to ask something about the output result of TMAG5173A2 with the TIMSS tool. From the datasheet, I think when the magnetic is 266mT, the output of device will be (266mT)*(123LSB/mT) = 32718LSB. But the simulation result from the customer is that the biggest output value is only about 1500 <<31718. The simulation value is shown as below csv file. Is any other relationship between the output and simulation result, or is there any misunderstanding from me?

5173Device+Output+(2).csv5173Plots+(2).csv

In addition, my customer asks for a single axis device with communication interface not voltage output. Could you please recommend it?

Regards,

Eileen

  • Eileen,

Thanks for reaching out, and sorry for the confusion here.  What is happening is better explained in the TMAG5170 datasheet

The ADC in the device is naturally a 12-bit converter, and when oversampling is enabled using the CONV_AVG register setting the result will be extended to a 16-bit output. In either case, you would likely always read the 16-bit result, so we will likely look to update the simulation tool to reflect this and reduce confusion.

In TIMSS you can change the oversampling setting on the Sensor Specifications tab

When you change to any setting from 2x to 32x you should then get a 16-bit result from the tool.

    Thanks,

    Scott
