IWR6843: Contactless heart rate monitoring at short distances

Part Number: IWR6843
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWRL6432

Tool/software:

Hi,

we would like to use radar technology to detect user heart rate on a short distance, mounting the sensor on a (tactical) vest, e.g. skin/chest wall to sensor distance about 10 - 50 mm depending to exact solution. The subject may be moving, but it is understandable that HR signal will be not available when moving too much...

Does TI offer any radar solutions suitable for such a short range measurement? We can do a lot of signal processing ourselves, so we do not need exactly an EVB with heart rate output, but at least something that is able to measure in this distance range with sub-mm resolution.

Thank you,

Ivo

  • Hi

Vital signs demo is available on IWR6843 and IWRL6432 devices. Only pre built binary is provided with IWR6843 Vitals demo whereas source code is available with IWRL6432 Vitals demo. You can find both the demo at the following location in radar tool box.

    radar_toolbox_3_10_00_05\source\ti\examples\Industrial_and_Personal_Electronics\Vital_Signs

Do note that it needs approximately 20 seconds for the vitals to stabilize and the sensor should be facing the chest area of the person

  • Hi Abhishek,

Thank you for your reply. I am wondering about the short distance I mentioned - some radar sensors are technologically unable to operate on short distances. Are you sure that the demos you mentioned are suitable?

    Thank you,

    Ivo

  • Hi

The demo will not work below 30cm. It can work from 30cm - 3m.
