AWRL6432: How to find defective pins after SMT?

Part Number: AWRL6432

Tool/software:

Hello, TI team,

Our team is considering how to find defective pins after SMT on PCBs.

So I have some questions about it.

If there are test poins on the PCB for each pins, could we find defective points from DC test of the board?

And do we need to check all the pins? Or are there specific pins that need to be measured to detect defect?

Please let me know if you have any comments.

I would be appreciated your help.

Best regards,

Isaac Kwak

  • Hi Isaac,

Thank you for reaching out. I am looping in our hardware expert for this topic. Please allow them a few days to look over and thoroughly respond to your question.

  • Hi Isaac,
You can refer to mmWave Production Testing Overview. This document contains a high-level guide to help setup testing of radar sensor units during production. You will be able to catch the defective units with basic power on checks and parametric checks which is mentioned in the appnote. You can also add test points for performing DC test, functional test, open/short test etc.

Please take care of points mentioned below while adding the testpoints.
    1. It is not recommended to add test points on critical RF supplies and internal LDO supplies like VBGAP, 1.4V APLL, 1.4V Synth, 1VRF, 1V2RF etc.
    2. Consider adding SMD test points and please avoid adding through hole test points.
    3. Keep stub length of the test points short as possible to avoid any noise getting into the device as well to avoid any unwanted emissions
