AWRL1432: Tx antenna selection for CW measurements seems not to work

Part Number: AWRL1432

Tool/software:

Hello Support Team,

On our AWRL1432 board, we want to make characterization measurements of our antennas with an external spectrum analyzer for both antennas as well for each antenna separately.

I use the gesture recognition demo, set the channelCfg to "7 3 0" resp. "7 2 0" and "7 1 0".
Then I switch on the CW mode by the command "sensorStart 4 0 0 0"
The start frequency is set to 76GHz.

When I measure the current of our ECU I observe that the current of the "7 3 0" and "7 1 0" are equal (about 131mA at 12V), whereas the current consumption of "7 2 0" is significantly lower (about 96mA at 12V).

This looks as if antenna 2 can be used separately, but antenna 1 can only be switched on together with antenna 2.

I try to make a POR between the measurements, but the results are identical.

Clarification is highly appreciated,
Thomas

  • Hi Thomas,

Can you go through this document to create a calibration profile and then create a measurement profile for the CW mode measurements.

  • Hello Sreedeep,

thanks for the fast and comprehensive answer.

I now use the motion and presence detect demo as suggested in the example configurations.
After I adapted them slightly to our needs, they worked fine.

However, the results are still not completely understood. I can still only measure the ECU current which makes my analysis quite weak.

Sometimes I got the currents as with our own SW, i.e. Ant 1&2 take the same current as Ant 1, but Ant 2 needs less current.
In other measurements, all three configurations need the same amount of current, which is about the current for one antenna in the previous measurement.

I did PORs between all measurements to avoid interference of previous configurations, but with same results.

Also, I tried this on different samples, but with the same result.

I will bring the samples to our measurement labs next week. Hopefully we can get there more insights what happens.

    Kind regards,
    Thomas

  • Hi Thomas,

We put the AWRL1432 device in CW mode using both mmwave studio and SDK and observed the current in bench supply with Tx0, Tx1 and both Txs ON. The current readings were similar for Tx0 and Tx1 individually turned ON and for both Txs combined the current reading was more than individual Tx.

Can you please tell me how you measure the current in your device.

Also, can you please enable CW mode using mmwave studio and do the same tests.

    Regards,

    Sreedeep
