PGA460: Any ulttasonic sensor that supports higher frequency

Part Number: PGA460
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSS4440, , TUSS4470

Tool/software:

Hi,

I am looking for sensor which can able to give 60 data points in a second. Its battery connected and will be used to detect person within 2 meters range. Can you provide options available.

Thanks

Karunakar

  • Planning to use PGA460/TUSS4440 . Is there anything else do we require for ultrasonic sensors to function with esp32

Do we require TUSS4440 or connecting PGA460 is good enough to have ultrasonic sensor to work

  • As. it is Closed top, what materials do we have to use for enclosure

  • PGA460 alone can work for your application.  TUSS4440 could also work, but the PGA460 includes more integrated DSP features.

  • Hi Karunakar,

The sample rate will be based on the record time configuration.  For a 2m measurement in air, the ToF is about 1.76ms.  You would likely want to have your record time a bit longer than your max expected distance, so you may set it to 2.5 to 3ms.  You should be able to obtain about 300 measurements per second.

  • Hi Eddie,

I have few questions before we place the order.

    1. DoesPGA460.  having both transmitter and receiver?

    2. Also, is it closed tope? What material do we have to use for enclosure?

    3. Is it have any interference with MW. sensor

    4. I can see that there are 16 ports available. How to connect to these ports? through soldering or jumper wires? what is distance between these ports?

    5. Does it work with 3.3V VIN?

    6. To adjust the peaks in current, do we required to connect capacitors?

  • 1. PGA460 is a transceiver.  It includes transmitter and receiver.

    2. The PGA460 is not a transducer.  It is only the transceiver for driving a transducer.  I recommend looking at the PGA460EVM for an example of a full system.  This EVM is intended for evaluation.  You would need to design your own board for your system.

    3. Most likely not since the frequencies are so far apart.

    4. The chip has 16 pins, yes.  You must design a PCB that includes the IC and any associated external components.  Connections should be made through PCB traces.  I recommend using the EVM schematic as a reference.

    5. No.  Minimum voltage supply is 6V.

    6. Yes, there are several capacitors needed.  Check the EVM schematic as a reference.

  • Thanks Eddie. However in diagram i can see XDCR outside PGA460. We would be using more boards for evaluation purpose that way, we will be desiging our own PCB for testing. Please suggest if we require seperate transducer to procure such as TUSS4440

  • All, we want is end-end working of ultrasonic sensor using PGA460 with our ESP32 processor board, I mean, in some articles its mentioned that we require transducer to make the solution to work. Can you confirm

As per what i have read, apart form PGA460, we requireTransducer and Transformer. Can you confirm and suggest compatible parts

  • Correct.  You will require a transducer external from the PGA460.

PGA460 can be used with or without transformer.  Direct drive mode is described in section 7.3.2.2 of the datasheet.  For 2m range, you will likely only need direct drive mode.

You can find a list of transducers and transformers below.

  • I did my own research, and placed order of transducer along with TUSS4440. I believe this may not require any transformer. Please correct me.

When you told PGA460 alone good enongh, i did my own research to find other required components. That helped me.

    Thanks

    Karunakar

  • Karunakar,

TUSS4440 is intended for transformer drive.  TUSS4470 is intended for direct drive.
