Temp Sensor suggestion for DM8148.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP441

Hi ,

One of my customer is developing the Thin client application based on DM8148 Processor , now customer want to measure the DM8148 (CPU temperature range +20 o C to 100 oC)Temperature & over all PCB board  temperature(System temperature range +20 o C to 100 o C ) .Accuracy:- ±  1 with all interface.   The DM814X has in built  Temp sensor ? Could please suggest the suitable product from TI / NSC.  can we monitor the both temp in BIOS Stet up ?

  • Hello Vengadesh,

I'm not familiar with the DaVinci processors, but I just searched through all the DM8148 technical documents and wasn't able to find any mention of a built-in temperature sensing function. Even so, there's most likely an internal diode that can be used for a remote temperature measurement. I would ask the DaVinci experts on the appropriate forum at: http://e2e.ti.com/support/dsp/davinci_digital_media_processors/f/716.aspx for a confirmation of this.

That being said, I'd recommend a device such as the TMP441 for the temperature measurement you have described. This part can remotely measure the processor temperature with ±1°C accuracy across the 0° to 100°C range, and can also locally measure the system temperature with ±1°C accuracy across the 0° to 100°C range.

Again, I'm not a DaVinci expert, but since there's no mention of temperature sensing functionality in the DM8148 documentation it's unlikely that the temperatures can be monitored in the BIOS.
