TMCS1101-Q1: IC failure Mode

Part Number: TMCS1101-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi,

I am using Current sensor IC TMCS1101A1BQDRQ1. Below is image where this IC got burst, but no failure in fuse or any other part of circuit. Can you share failure modes of this IC, when can it burn as shown in image?

By application, we are taking continuous current of <=16Arms through IC.

  • Hello,

There are multiple things that could cause a device failure. Violating any of the conditions in the absolute maximum ratings table.

Another possibility is a surge current exceeding our specifications shown below.

Section 7.3 of the datasheet describes all the safe operating area conditions and tests.

I would also look at Section 6.6 which details our insulation specifications. If there is a high voltage event that could potentially damage the insulation and cause a HV to LV short, causing damage.

  • Hello Holly,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I suspect Surge current event may damage this IC. (As other parameter checked and found no ambiguity)

Actual surge event is in microsecond(20uS or 50uS). In datasheet fusing graph minimum value is 1mS. Kindly provide graph for microseconds, to ensure the root cause.

  • Unfortunately, we do not have information for pulses shorter than what is shown in the datasheet.

What value of current are you seeing?

    Best,

    Holly
