IWR6843ISK: Detection Difference between 3-patch and 6-patch Antennas

Part Number: IWR6843ISK

Tool/software:

Hi,

I have been testing the detection capability of IWR6843ISK with both the 3-patch and 6-patch antenna versions. During my verification, I noticed something unusual:

  • With the 6-patch antenna, under MIMO mode with all three Tx enabled, objects at certain angles cannot be detected.

  • For example, with a reflector at −30°, the range FFT output clearly shows a peak at the expected distance, but when converting to x-y coordinates (AoA result), no corresponding stationary detection point appears.

  • Under the same conditions, the 3-patch antenna can detect the object normally.

  • Both tests were done with the same firmware image and environment.

My questions are:

  1. Are there any similar cases, or documents that explain such differences?

  2. With the 6-patch antenna structure, are there known angle blind spots or limitations when using MIMO?

  3. Are there recommended adjustments in antenna configuration or parameters to improve this behavior?

Any insights, experiences, or references would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Best Regards,

CH
