FDC1004EVM: FDC1004EVM Capacitance Offset and Grease Measurement Question

Part Number: FDC1004EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FDC1004

Tool/software:

Hello,

I am working with the FDC1004EVM to measure the capacitance of a parallel-plate capacitor with dielectric structure. My setup is:

  • One plate connected to CIN4

  • Other plate connected to GND

When I connect my plates, the measured capacitance is often greater than 15 pF, my setup consit of two paralel plate capacitor with dielectric,I tried using the CAPDAC and Offset Capacitance settings in the GUI, but I am not sure about the correct procedure:

  • Should I adjust this only with CAPDAC, or also with the Offset Capacitance setting?
  • Is it normal to have this baseline capacitance with just plates + wiring connected, and is subtracting that baseline the right way to get the net sensor reading
  • In addition, Can the FDC1004 measure changes in capacitance reliably with grease as the dielectric, or is the device intended mainly for liquids / high-permittivity fluids?I just selected the CAPDAC Code and offset
