AWR1843AOPEVM: Static object detection on the autoparking application

Part Number: AWR1843AOPEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1843AOP, TIDEP-01026

Tool/software:

Hello TI Team,

I am working with the AWR1843AOP EVM and have flashed application the automated parking and observed the detected point on the "MMW demo visualizer".

In my testing, I noticed the following:

  • When I stand stationary within 10 meters of the radar (2–8 m), no detection points appear on the 3D scatter plot on the mmw demo visualizer.

  • When I move within the same range, the radar detects me and points are displayed.

But the documentation (including the Design Guide: TIDEP-01026) states that the automated parking application, in USRR and MSRR modes, should detect both static objects (walls, poles, etc.) and dynamic objects (cars, pedestrians) within 0–40 meters, depending on object type.

Expected behavior: A stationary pedestrian within 10 meters should be detected as a static object, according to the documentation.

Could you please advise why the radar is not detecting stationary pedestrians within 10 meters (0-10m), and if any additional configuration or tuning is required?

Note : i am using "profile_parking_mimo_2d_50m_3d_10m_aop.cfg". if there are different configuration parameters required for these use cases that mentioned in the automated parking pdf, then could you please share that configuration file.

Thanks
mitesh singh

  • Hi, Mitesh:

Please let me know which demo you are testing.

    Best,

    Zigang

  • Hello Zigang,

I flashed the following prebuilt binary:

    C:\ti\radar_toolbox_3_20_00_04\source\ti\examples\Automotive_ADAS_and_Parking\automated_parking\prebuilt_binaries\xwr18xx_mmw_aop_demo.bin

    using the configuration file:

    profile_parking_mimo_2d_50m_3d_10m_aop.cfg

Please let me know if you need any additional details.

    Best regards,
    Mitesh

  • Hi, Mitesh:

The expert on this demo has moved to other groups.  Please give me some time to get familiar with this demo.

  • Hello Zigang,

I hope you are doing well. I wanted to kindly follow up to check if there are any updates regarding the automated parking demo.

Please let me know at your convenience.

    Best regards,
    Mitesh

  • Hello TI Team,

We are currently in the start of our production phase, which is a very critical stage for us. We seek your support regarding the Auto Parking application demo. Specifically, we need assistance in obtaining static object detection information from the demo.

If there is an alternative demo available that can reliably detect static objects within a 0-10-meter range, that would also be highly valuable for our work.

    Looking forward to your guidance.

    Thank you,
    Mitesh

  • Hi, Mitesh:

Really sorry for the delay.  I was off for the last week.

The TI design Table 1-1 mentioned that the Ultra-short range mode can support up to 10m for static object and short range mode can support up to 55 meter range for moving object.  However, it also mentioned at this is achievable for the object with RCS at 10m^2.  I believe human is with RCS around 1m^2.   So it may not be able to detect.

Let me know if it makes sense to you.

    Best,

    Zigang
