TMP75: standard mode timing reuquirement

Part Number: TMP75

Tool/software:

Hi expert,

When using TMP75 in standard mode I2C, customers tested that the SDA_rise time is 731.5ns/SCL_rise time is 771ns/SDA_hold time is 2.687us. All these 3 are beyond the range listed in timing requirements of fast mode in the datasheet. While these parameters fulfill the standard mode requirement in I2C standard. So my customers would like to confirm if these parameters are ok under I2C standard mode when using TMP75?

Manu

  • Hello Manu,

There's no issue with violating hold time max as long as other parameters are not violated, (such as setup time for the next clock.) Violating hold time min will cause TMP75 to malfunction.

  • Hi Meredith,

There is no data for the standard mode timing requirements in datasheet. If customers are going to use this in standard mode, which timing requirements should they follow? The I2C standard?

Like I stated before, not only the hold time, but the rise time is above the max value in datasheet in fast mode, which made customers confused how to use in standard mode.

Besides, if there is no issue, why do we list the max hold time in datasheet, what does this parameter actually mean?

There's no issue with violating hold time max as long as other parameters are not violated,

  • Hello Manu,

Data max hold time can go over. Max clock Rise Time and Data Rise Fall Time can go over. If Rise and fall time are too slow, it will affect hold and setup times.

  • Hi Meredith,

Thanks for the reply, so can I understand this that as long as the customers' rise and fall time follow the I2C standard mode's standard, it will not affect the hold and setup time as well as the communication? Since that we don't have any data references in standard mode in datasheet.

  • Hello Manu,

    TMP75 follows I2C standard mode's standard.
