LDC1612EVM: “Saturated” Error with N Coil (3 mm, 4-layer) and 47 nF Capacitor

Part Number: LDC1612EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LDCCOILEVM, , LDC1612

Tool/software:

I’m trying to use the N coil (LDCCOILEVM) — circular, 3 mm diameter, 3 turns per layer, 0.1 mm trace width, 0.1 mm spacing, 4 layers — with the LDC1612EVM.

I designed the coil using the TI Coil Designer web tool and decided to solder a 47 nF capacitor in parallel with the coil to target a Sensor frequency of 1.6 MHz, which is well below the coil’s self-resonant frequency (15 MHz per datasheet).

However, when I test it, I get the following issues:

  • Error: “Saturated”

  • Input glitch filter: incorrect

  • Raw output value: fixed at 268435455

I’m unsure what is causing this. Should I add an inductor in series with the coil to correct this? If yes, how should I calculate the required inductance?

Any guidance or suggestions on why the LDC1612 is giving these errors would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
