AWR1843AOPEVM: Drone Tracking Capabilities

Part Number: AWR1843AOPEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1843AOP

Hi Team,

Posting on behalf of our customer.

I am currently working on a drone defense system. I am tasked with determining a solution for our wide field of view (WFOV) initial detection and continuous tracking within our defined airspace. These drones have a cross section of roughly 6 inches wide by 3 inches tall. I spent hours researching this component and came up with a detailed approach to optimize our setup, develop the best configuration, and extend the range of these AWR1843AOPEVM units. I have attached this research and would like to know if this configuration is sufficient for what we need (~100m detect/tracking range with full 360 azimuth + 180 elevation coverage) on a basic level. Essentially, is it possible in the first place and what do the result metrics actually entail--do they meet our needs and if not what is the expected performance?

Research: Brief Design and Functional Outline - WFOV.pdf

A slight change to this research: the lens will be modified to the following parameters to achieve a 90 degree FOV instead of 70.

  • Diameter 95 mm
  • Focal Length 45 mm
  • Radius of Curvature 22.5–26 mm
  • Height (center) ~42–45 mm
  • Material SLA Resin (εᵣ ≈ 2.4) NOT CHANGED
  • Mounting ~45 mm from radar chip
