TMP144: Issue with data from TMP144

Hello,

On a particular board, a TMP144 sensor gives a faulty value. This is shown with green line above the particular value in the waveform below. What can be the cause of this?

Hi Prithvi,

I assume this is repeatable? Does the third sensor in the chain always report an erroneous value? Can you try replacing just that sensor and report back the result?

These are four ball BGA devices and we commonly see solder faults on these packages. The device may be heating itself due to solder fault, or it may have EOS damage.

Hello Ren,

Yes, this is repeatable.

I am having bad reliability of of a board with 16 TMP144. For example another board with 16 TMP144 says there are 15 units, while only 11 sends their data.

In this image, you issue a One-Shot command 0xF2, 0x00, 0x62. The sensors will start a temperature measurement at this moment. The measurement takes 35ms max. It's called Conversion Time in the Specifications table. You must introduce a 35ms delay after issuing One-Shot and before reading back temperature data.

Thanks Ren for the reply. That board in the next read also gives the same number (11 out of 15) replies. Note that it is configured for continuous read, not single shot.

Anyway I'm closing this now. We've moved onto TMP1075 that supports 16 addresses of I2C, so that we can have that many sensors on a board.
