DCA1000EVM: DCA1000EVM: Repeated failure - L4 component overheating and Ethernet connection failure

sorry for late reply for my last question. But i have same problem as last time.

I am experiencing a severe and repeated hardware issue with the DCA1000EVM.

Previously, my original DCA1000 failed because the L4 component was severely overheating. Assuming it was a faulty board, I purchased a brand-new DCA1000.

The new board worked perfectly at first. However, it is now exhibiting the exact same symptoms as the first one:

  • The L4 component is overheating again.

  • The Ethernet connection is failing completely.

Since this has happened to two separate boards, I suspect something might be causing this component to burn out. Here are my questions:

  1. Can this board be repaired, or should I request an RMA?

  2. What is the specific function of the L4 component?

  3. What external factors (e.g., specific power supply issues, connection to the radar EVM board) could be causing this exact component to continuously fail? 

Any guidance on troubleshooting this or initiating a repair would be greatly appreciated.

  • Here are the specific details of my setup:

    • Power Supply: I have tested this with both 5V/3A and 5V/2.5A power adapters.

    • Radar EVMs: The DCA1000 was used in conjunction with the IWR6843AOP and AWR1642BOOST evaluation modules.

    • Software: The software configuration (including mmWave Studio setup) was executed exactly as described in the official user guide.

    The L4 in the filtering component on the DC-DC (see schematic portion below).  Is this the component you are referring to?

    can you check the voltage levels shown on the schematic?  Are they normal?

    Yes, it looks like L4 is the component I was referring to.

    At the moment, I do not have the equipment needed to measure the voltage levels, but I am in the process of obtaining it. Once I am able to take the measurements, I will check the voltages on the schematic and let you know if I find anything abnormal.
