TMP102: Abnormal power consumption

Dear Experts,

The customer is using TMP102 for temperature measurement applications and is currently conducting power consumption tests on the same board. It was found that the latest batch of chips has a high quiescent  current, with normal chips having a current of around 0.5uA and abnormal chips reaching over 50uA. It is currently unclear why there is a significant power consumption difference on the same board. The customer suspects that there is a problem with this batch of chips and hopes that assistance can be provided in troubleshooting.

  • The customer schematic is as follows, the MCU is TI CC1310;

    The test is conducted on the same board. Firstly, a normal chip is tested, and an ammeter is directly connected in series with V+to measure the input current, which is approximately 5uA. Then, the chip is removed and replaced with the currently abnormal chip to measure the input current, which jumps above 50uA; The customer has read back the values of the configuration register, and both chips read E1A0. This indicates that the chips should be in shutdown mode, but there is a significant difference in the quiescent current between the two. Please help to analyze this. Thank you

  • Is there a pull-up resistor for SCL? This schematic suggests that this input could be left unbiased. If any digital input is left unconnected, it could cause lots of shoot-through current. There is some discussion of shoot-through current here on E2E as well as elsewhere on the internet.

    Otherwise, this is a relatively small current, and it could be caused by EOS damage or board contamination from solder assembly.
