Haven't a clue what it is I am looking for so I am looking for some help.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP006

Hello

My Company is Powerlift Dumbwaiters, Inc. I am always looking for ways to make our dumbwaiter safer. I had an idea about installing a heat sensor into the car that could read body heat from a child or animal, if so then the dumbwaiter would not operate. For those that don't know what a dumbwaiter is, its an elevator for boxes, or items not to carry people floor to floor but objects. So I am just trying to find out if this idea is even do able, and what the cost would be. Like I said I am clueless to what I need, just looking for help to point me in the right direction.

Thanks for your time

  • David,

This sounds interesting. I have a suggestion you may want to look at. We have a new infrared temperature sensor called the TMP006.

Here is a link to this part on our website:

    http://www.ti.com/ww/en/analog/tmp006/index-b.shtml?DCMP=hpa-tmp-tmp006&HQS=Other+PR+tmp006-pr

The TMP006 will read the ambient temperature, or any object up to a certain proximity to the device. The object temperature being lifted would have to be considered along with the ambient temperature and the temperature of the child or animal. The body temperature for humans is 98.6oF while a dogs body temperature is around 102.5oF. You may want to consider using several temperature sensors in order to compare object temperatures as well as ambient temperature to each other in order to be certain that there is an animal or child in the dumbwaiter.

Although the temperature would be a good check there would have to be several considerations for safety in the Dumbwaiter. You may also want to consider other sensors in conjunction with the temperature sensor such as weight, proximity, or even motion sensors.

For example: If there is an animal or child in the dumbwaiter the object temperatures can be read and compared as well detecting any motion with a motion detector.

  • Thanks for the quick reply back Chris.

Something tells me that this could be do able, My main concern is the cost?

Then how to go about figuring this out. We are more hip on relays, and transformers, then

cpu or electronics. I am going to do some more thinking on this.

    Thanks again for your heolp.
