LM57B Part Numbering

Customer using the 5 degree hysteresis part.  The datasheet doesn’t break down the part numbers related to the 5 and 10 degree built-in hysteresis options.  Is part number LM57BISD-5/NOPB the 5 degree hysteresis version?

Also, is this part anywhere near end of life since I’m planning to use this in a new product.

  • Patrick,

Yes, you are correct, the "-5" in the part number indicates the 5-dgreeC hysteresis version, and the datasheet is not clear on this.  Also be sure to reference the variations of temp as shown in Fig 10.

As far as End-Of-Life, please read our official policy, as there is no planned obsolescence for any device.  This policy is accessable through any Product Folder page under the Quality section:

"We are not able to forecast future market demand for a TI device and accordingly, we are not in a position to speculate on how long a device will remain in production. There is a multitude of factors that affect the lifetime of a device. Market demand, process efficiency, device reliability, and technology trends are all considered when TI decides how it will allocate its limited resources. Nonetheless, it is TI's intention to maximize customer service with a reliable source of product supply for as long as TI practically can to optimize our long-term customer/supplier relationship.

Texas Instruments is committed to provide notification of Product Obsolescence and offer a Life Time Buy (LTB) opportunity, where applicable. TI allows up the 12 months for an order to be place from the date of notification and allows an additional 6 months to take delivery of the ordered product. "

Additionally, in our Quality Manual (accessible from any of the Quality links on any product folder page): ( http://focus.ti.com/quality/docs/gencontent.tsp?templateId=5909&navigationId=12841&contentId=52804  ) Section 5:

    5.0 Customer Process Change Notification

TI has established a system, compliant with JESD46C, which notifies our customer base in a timely fashion of product or process changes that affect form, fit, or function, or adversely impact product quality or reliability.  The Change Notification Process identifies changes to the customer a minimum of 90 days prior to a change, and provides feedback channels for sample requests, data, and acknowledgments among other requests, at all points in the overall process.

End of Life (EOL) notifications are handled in accordance with JESD48, latest issue.  TI provides 12 months lead time for the last order and an additional 6 months to take final delivery of obsolete items.

    Hope this helps,

    Leonard

  • Also, in ESP, there is a presentation, page 56 has a brief description of Obsolescence Policy.  Go to "Sales Collateral", in the second column, click on "Analog Business Overview":
