TMP006 Student Project

As a part of a systems analysis class, we are creating a fictitious temperature sensor application. Basically all we need to do is come up with all the components and describe how they will all work together, plus all the business side aspects (investing, ROI, etc.). However, our group wants to step it up a notch and actually get a working prototype for our presentation at the end of the semester. After discovering the TMP006EVM Evaluation Module, we were hoping to use this to get a working cell phone app. So far this is where our ideas have led us:
1. The TMP006EVM has a USB and software included
2. We were thinking about attaching a microUSB to USB or iPhone connector to USB adapter on it so it can be plugged into an android or iphone.
3. We would then place a Windows XP operating system onto one of the phones and load the software of the EVM

This is the ultimate question: Will the microUSB or iPhone jack recognize and work with the EVM if we do it in this manner? Basically, once we load a standard version of XP on to a phone, will the OS be able to recognize the microUSB or iPhone connector ports and be able to use those similar to a USB port on a desktop or laptop?

If this takes a little more work, what else may we have to do to get it to work? If its impossible, what else could we do cheaply to get a working model? We are just looking to get a temperature readout on the phone and nothing else, just to show in our presentation. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Hi Tanner,

This question is better suited for a smartphone hobbyist coding forum, as we don't have expertise in such areas. I don't know if the OS installed on the phone would be able to detect the TMP006EVM when it's connected to the phone's USB port.

Perhaps with some Google searching you can find out how a smartphone's port behaves once you install Windows.

    Best regards,
