LDC1000 for ore pre-processing

Hello,

I am looking at an application where LDC1000 would be used in high speed ore (belt application) processing and classification. I would like it know if the drive power level of the LC tank circuit can be increased (to boost sensitivity) and also whether the IC will produce meaningful readings if the ore is moving above the coil circuit (within in a certain time constraint). I am also considering Analog Devices AD5933: (1 MSPS, 12 BIT IMPEDANCE CONVERTER NETWORK ANALYZER), can you suggest why LDC1000 is more suited for this application?

By a quick look, it seems that it requires 1024 conversions for 1 output sample => ~1kS/s data rate, while LDC1000 can output up to 78kS/s. Not to mention order of magnitude higher price.

Power level cannot be increased, and it is not required to achieve very high sensitivity. What is the time constrain?

Hi Evgeny,

Thanks for a quick turnaround. We can expect our requirements to be ore in sizes of 25-150 mm while moving at a speed of 0.5 - 2 m/s. Depending on the coil geometry (diameter), we need to classify an ore sample within the time it takes it travel over the sensor coil.

Could you please give me an idea about electric and magnetic properties of the ore we are looking at?

Conductivity, magnetic permeability if any?
