Hello,

I have a question for TMP006.

Q1 : Reduce Object Radius and was wondering how to increase the distance?

  I read “TMP006_introduction.pdf” and

“Design Guideline: Place the object a distance no farther than ½ the radius of the object from the TMP006. (d < r/2)”.

I’d like to try to measure d = 1.5 ~ 2[m], and r = 0.15[m].

Please your comment.

Configuration Register : Bit [7] DRDY: Data ready bit

1 = Object voltage and ambient temperature results are ready to read.

A temperature or sensor voltage read or a write to the Configuration Register is required to clear the condition.”

 I’d like to receive easy explanation about “A temperature ~”.

    To answer your questions:

    A1: You can increase the distance by restricting TMP006's Field of view by using lenses etc. I would like to confirm the distance requirements, is 1.5 meters? What are your accuracy requirements and temperature range of target object ? I can help you better if I get this information:

    A2: A temperature = Ambient temperature/Local temperature.

    Data Ready signifies that conversion has ended and due to which Sensor voltage and Ambient temperature are available for the user to read. Data Ready can be cleared by Ambient temperature or sensor voltage read or a write to the Configuration Register is required to clear the condition.

    Thank you for your answer.

    A1 : I’d like to Accuracy and Resolution is +/- 1.0 °C.

    And, Distance(L) is 1.0m & FOV(H) is 20cm,  

    Can measure the temperature will be less than 500 °C ?, (datasheet, –40°C to +125°C)

    If not available TMP006 Spec.,please let me know Offset control method can be adjusted according to the distance.

  • Hello Eddy,

    Since your object is 1m from TMP006 you will need to use lens for your application. Even though we do not extensively provide support with lenses due to lack of optical expertise we do have a few recommendations in selecting the right materials for your applications. Its important that you make sure you use materials that are transparent to IR radiation. Suitable materials include:

    –Polypropylene/polyethylene
    –Poly IR blend (ex. Poly IR 2 from Fresnel Tech)
    –IR glass (ex. IG2 glass from Schott Glass)
    –Sapphire (Al2O3)
    –Calcium Floride (CaF2)
    –Germanium (Ge)
    –Zinc Selenide (ZnSe

    To address your other questions..
    Based on our experience for applications with target objects this far, even though there is enough resolution its not possible to achieve +/- 1.0 °C accuracy.

    As long as the local temperature sensor doesn't go beyond 125deg C the IR sensor can measure object temperatures up to ~256degC but please keep in mind that accuracies will be severely affected at these temperatures. Also, there is no offset control methodology for such high temperatures.
