Can I use LDC1000 to connect with 2-wire inductance linear position sensor?

This 2-wire linear position sensor change its inductance linearly with movement, can I use LDC1000 to test the inductance change and output 0.5v-4.5v voltage signal? What's the percision LDC1000 can reach?

Thanks!

  • What is the range of inductance of your sensor?

What is your sampling rate (speed of movement)?

The output will have to be done with a microcontroller.  LDC1000 data can only be retrieved by SPI.

There are no hard limitations on precision; it is dependent on your system targets.  For most designs LDC1000 can be in the micron range, but it can go sub-micron.

  • Hi,

The inductance changes from 3mH to 8mH.

    Maximum speed is 2m/s.

There is a controller communicate with LDC1000 via SPI.

Do you think it's a good idea to use LDC1000?

Thank you very much for your response!

  • Hi Jason,

I don't understand the speed.  Do you mean 2mH/s?

3mH to 8mH is certainly possible!  We have tested coils with even larger inductances, however be mindful that you have to change your tank capacitance and feedback capacitance to your desired sampling speed / material.

    Thanks,
