Temperature Sensor Tmp101 sensing distance in a PCB of around 5inch

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP101

My question is Tmp101 chip itself acts has a sensing device so what is the maximum distance that it can able to sense the temperature in a PCB of 5inch.

Or guide me sensor which can able to sense temp distance around 5-7inch in PCB. What is the exact place where it can suit in PCB has tmp101 is having only one address pin it can be simulate to two device one to controller and another any power device.

So, my requirement is I want temp sensor which can able to simulate 8-10 device in ECU and it can cover the temp monitoring of atleast 5-6 chips in ECU. Range of sensing is that it should able to sense Temp if i placed it anywhere in the ECU. Or guide the suitable place to place the temperature sensor which can able to sense in place of 5-6inch PCB .

  • Hello Basavaraj,

TMP101 or any of the local temp sensors will be able to measure the temperature of the PCB exactly at its location (not 1-2 inches away). This being said I would like to clarify that it all depends upon the thermal profile of the PCB itself. If your PCB has metal traces and heat is distributed such that there is not much thermal gradient from one end to the other end of PCB then the answer is - yes, TMP101 will measure the entire 5 inch PCB area. But, I don't think this is the case since heat and we need to find you a suitable solution.

I would suggest going for a remote junction temp sensing but since we are dealing with ECU I would rather obtain more clarity on your application and specifications.
