Using TMP006 for body skin temperature measurement

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP006

Hi,

We would like to use the TMP006 for body skin temperature measurements.

Our device is based on an RF energy that heat the skin.

Since we use an ultrasound gel as an coupling material , we must use a protective cup in order to keep the gel from

penetrating inside the device - we use a Polyethylene as a raw material for making the cup.

We noticed during our experiments the following:

1. The gel is disturbing the sensor operation.

2. The ambient temperature changing rate is very low.

3. In the beginning of the operation there is a large difference between the actual temp. to what the sensor is       reading, therefor it's very difficult for us to use the sensor as a thermostat that will protect the user from overheating.

We will appreciate if you will shear with us your experience in same applications.

Regards,

  • Hello Adel,

Polyethylene is IR transparent but it looks like the gel is blocking the IR energy from the skin to TMP006. Gel could also be creating an unwanted thermal insulation from the skin causing low ambient temperature change rate.

We have conducted a few experiments to measure the skin temperature using TMP006 but it did not involve using any gel like substances. To be able to assist you soon, it would be of help if you could provide us pictures of the setup. If you do not wish to disclose the details in this public forum please email me  (abhishekmuppiri@ti.com).
