Data Acquisition (DAQ) Card

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV5053

I have a Non Destructive Testing (NDT)application in which I use a Data Acquisition Card from other company to acquire Analog Input Signals from Hall Effect Sensors (SS494B Honeywell) and then perform some Signal Processing using a software which then helps to visualize on the Computer Screen any defects detected.

My questions are:

(1) Does TI carry any Data Acquisition OEM Card with multiple Channels for Analog Input (16-bit), Analog Output (16-bit), Digital Inputs, Digital Outputs, and Counters?

(2) Can the DRV5000 Hall Effect Sensors be use also in place of the SS494B Hall Effect Sensors?

  • As far as data acquisition goes, I found this page: http://www.ti.com/tool/wavevision5  Scroll down and see "Design Kits" where it shows 26 different evaluation boards which probably work with WaveVision.  I'm not sure if these are enough of a commercialized product for you.  TI generally just makes the ICs and HW/SW for evaluating them, and other companies make end products for users.  For more info, you can post to the Data Converters Forum.

The DRV5053 can certainly be used in place of the SS494B, but functionality is slightly different.  The SS494B is a ratiometric sensor, which means the output analog voltage is a ratio of the supply voltage.  Contrarily, the DRV5053 operates from a standard 2.5V to 38V and always outputs an analog 0V to 2V.  In addition, the 2 devices' accuracy of Sensitivity (in mV/G or mV/mT) is different.  The SS494B datasheet I have isn't clear about the MIN-to-MAX Sensitivity range, but the DRV5053 states this.

    Best regards,
