HDC1000 - how to isolate to get accurate readings

Hello,

I have a customer that is looking to potentially utilize the HDC1000, but has concerns regarding accurate readings.

They will be using a microprocessor, and as such, wish to avoid having the heat from the board affect the reading of the sensor.

Is there a way to make the sensor more remote to enable accurate readings of the outside temperature of their device?

there are some guidelines on this topic in the following application note: http://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/snaa216

In few words the best practice is redecing the thermal mass of the system, it means that the HDC1000 needs to be isolated from the rest of the PCB using some slots (see the application note) and making sure that the main ground plane of the PCB is far from the HDC1000.

Moreover if the HDC1000 is positioned ad the adge of the PCB or in the corner of the PCB you have already 1 or 2 sides close to the open air.

If your goal is sensing the external temperature, you have to design the case of the final device in order to allow a good airflow (see the application note).
