Yes the TMP006 or TMP007 can be used to measure the case temperature as per your drawing. The concern I have is the emissivity of the case. Aluminum has a fairly low emissivity. However, this can be corrected if the area of the case that is being measured is painted.

WE WOULD LIKE TO TEST TI TMP006 PART FOR OUR APPLICATION.
PROCEDURE STEPS:
1. BUY TI EVALUATION BOARD WITH TMP006 PART
2. FOLLOWS THE INSTRUCTIONS OF TI TMP006EVM User Guide and Software Tutorial.
3. INSTALL THE PART INSIDE OUR CASE WITH THE (ABOUT 9MM FROM THE COVER SURFACE)
4. COAT THE ALUMINUM CASE COVER SURFACE WITH MATERIAL WITH RIGHT EMISSIVITY.
TI DATA INPUT: PLEASE RECOMMAND GOOD COATING FOR OUR APPLICATION. (OIL PAINT?)
5. CONNECT A REFERENCE TERMOCOUPLE INSRUMENT TO THE CASE.
6. INSTALL JUST THE CASE INSIDE A TEST OVEN.
7. RUN TEMPERATURE TEST FROM -40 TO 80 DEG C .
8. READ DATA:
