No Output observed from TDC1000-BSTEVM

Hello,

I am using TDC-1000-GASEVM and TDC1000-BSTEVM to observe the amplified 30V output from the HV Board. On connecting the probes to the Start and the TX1 pins of GASEVM board, I can observe start pulse and 3.7V square wave on the Oscilloscope. But when I connect the HV board to the TDC-1000-GASEVM board and check the output, the 30V signal doesn't come up. Are there any specific parameters to be set in the software to achieve the 30V output?

I have set the following parameters:

CPU_CLK FREQ: 1MHz

TDC1000-HV Driver EN1: Checked

EN1 Period: 30 us

TDC1000-HV Driver EN2: Checked

EN Period: 15 ms

TDC1000-HV Boost Power Enable EN: Checked

Also, I can observe the enable signal on VDD_EN1 pin and the EN_Boost pin of the HV board but nothing comes out of the TP2 (30V) pin.

Also, can that be because the HV board is faulty? Is there any way to check that? Please suggest me how to debug this issue?

One question regarding the TDC1000-HV enable settings on the GUI: Just to be sure can you enable them after the GUI is up and running and connected to the board? That way we are sure GUI setting modification take effect and communicated to the MCU on the board. Let us know if this help.

I did try that already and I can observe the changes even after connecting the board. Thus, the GUI setting modification take effect and communicates to the MCU on the board. Also, I can see some amplification on the TP2 (30V) pin but that is of just 3.7-4V and not 30V

Thanks for confirming. Could you also please check Jumper JP1 on the TDC1000-BSTEVM is selected for HV position (JP1.P2 and JP1.P3)?

Also attached in the screenshot of the plot on the Oscilloscope with EN1 enabled. The bottom (blue) pulse is for the probe connected to the VDD_EN1 pin on J4 and the other probe(yellow) is connected to the TP2(30V). You can see that it goes max upto 11.2V starting from 8V.

What is the best route to replace the board? It looks like boost converter on the board is not kicking in after receiving the EN signal. We are trying to connect to TI store support but no luck/reply for 5 days . Should we just order a new board?

Hello Dharmik,

I just bought the same evaluation board as yours. What I did is I changed TDC_1000 Boost Power Enable EN Period to a very big number, for example, 1000 ms. I also found that this timing seems to correlate the amplitude of the boosted pulse. The bigger the number you chose, the higher voltage you gonna have, although I don't understand what does this EN period really mean and how does it correlates the amplitude. It can go up to about 34Vpp, the corresponding TDC_1000 Boost Power Enable EN is about 2000 ms.
I am using a 200KHz transducer btw.

Boost enable controls the shutdown pin of LM2733 Boost Converter (check BSTEVM schematic (U1) in document www.ti.com/.../sniu026.pdf ). The enable period in GUI is actually microsecond not millisecond. Please give atleast 15000us as the enable period. It gives that much time for the boost power to come up and settle. The HV driver enables are set after this.

Thanks Jingyuan. I think our problem was with the board's broken boost converter. We ordered another board which worked fine after changing enable period to a quite high number.
