FDC2214EVM

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FDC2212, FDC2214EVM

Hello

For a new development of a capacitive sensor I need the new FDC2212. For the first trials I ordered the FDC2214EVM. As explained in the user guide I installed the TI sensing solutions EVM GUI V1.1 and the TI driver on the notebook with 64 Bit Windows 7 with success. The Problem is:  After connecting the EVM to the USB, it remains in the "not connected" state. On the PC I can see the correct USB-port EVM (COM6). Naturally i tried several time to reinstall the software and the driver, to power on and so on, but all without success.

What can I do to get it running as soon as possible?

Georg

  • HI Georg:

Let me consult our software/firmware engineer on the issue.

    Thanks

    Capacitive Sensing Applications

  • Hello Mr. Wang

I found a solution for my Problem. The FDC2214EVM is working now correctly.

I deinstalled first all the virtual com ports on the PC. After that only the com port: EVM (COM..) was installed and now the FDC2214EVM is running with the GUI. The status is now "Connected". This was necessary on two different PC's to get it running.

    Thank you and regards

    Georg

  • David,

I am having the same issue, but uninstalling my com ports didn't solve it. I have searched for the drive, but can't find it on-line. Do you know where I can get the driver from? Thanks

    Joe Luck
  • Hi Joe,

The driver is installed with the GUI during its installation. What operating system are you using? Also, do you see the EVM listed in the windows device manager?

    Best regards,
    Blair
  • Blair,

I installed the GUI and then plugged in the EVM, but the GUI shows the EVM is not connected. In device manager it shows that there is no driver for the EVM, but it shows it as a MSP430. I am using windows 7 professional.

    Thanks,

    Joe

  • Hi Joe,

It sounds like the firmware wasn't installed on that EVM for some reason then. Try uploading the firmware through the GUI even though it says it isn't connected. Please follow these steps:

    1. From the GUI menu, go to the Firmware Page
    2. Click the button next the the text "Select TI-TXT firmware File:"
    3. Select the firmware file included with the GUI installation which can be found here "C:\ti\Sensing Solutions GUI-1.1\EVM Firmware\FDC2x14_LDC13xxRevB_LDC16xxRevB_EVM_Firmware.txt"
    4. Click the "Upload Firmware" button after selecting the firmware file
    5. If the upload fails, try uploading the firmware again. On occasion the GUI won't start the upload properly

Let me know if these steps work for you!

    Best regards,
    Blair
  • Blair,

That didn't work, but one of the other engineers here was able to get it to work on their computer. I will try to uninstall and reinstall the GUI and maybe something will come from that. Please let me know if you have any other steps I should follow.

    Joe
  • Joe,

I'm glad to hear it is working on a different machine. The computer it wouldn't work on, is it a 32 or 64 bit machine?

    Regards,
    Blair
  • I am assuming that his laptop is also a 64-bit OS. He has the same laptop, but he isn't here right now.
  • Blair,

I reinstalled the GUI and it seemed to have worked this time. I also had the EVM plugged in during the installation of the GUI this time. During the last step of the installation it gave me an alert about the driver not being recognized by Windows, but I allowed the driver to install and everything is fine. I believe that it didn't install the GUI last time because I didn't have the EVM plugged in during the GUI installation. Thank you for your help, I hope you have a great day.

    Thanks,

    Joe
