Fast response temperature sensor

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP102, TMP112, TMP103, TMP108, LMT70

Our customer need a temperature sensor with fast response. Any suggestion?

  • Hi David,

In general, the speed at which variations in external temperature are transferred to the internal sensing elements determines the overall response time. The thermal path in turn is determined by a number of factors with package size/material, PCB size and layout among them.

Smaller packages tend to reach thermal equilibrium faster. In this regard please check out TMP102/TMP112, the temperature step responses are shown in the application curves section (figure16 for TMP102 and figure21 for TMP112).

If it is an option to use WCSP package, please consider TMP103/4 and TMP108. We are in the process of updating the data sheets for these devices, and will have data related to temperature step response published shortly, but I expect it to be much faster.

    Regard, Guang

  • Hi David,

The LMT70 has a fast response time of 1.5 seconds in stirred oil due to its small 0.88 x 0.88mm chip scale packaging. The part is also our most accurate analog temperature sensor with 0.05C (typ) 0.13C (max) accuracy from 20C to 42C.
