Ambient light and UV light sensor

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPT3001, OPT101, OPT301

Our customer is looking for a sensor that can work for both ambient light and UV light. Do we have any devices can support this?

I can see the OPT3001 can only support ALS. The competitor is Silicon Lab Si1132. Please advise.

  • The OPT101 is an analog-output but responds to the spectrum into the IR range as well as ambient light.

If the customer wants to apply an optical filter to cut out ambient light but allow a passband of IR light, then they can absolutely do that, and add an ADC to the output of the OPT101 to digitize it.  If the customer goes this route, I'd suggest an optional LPF between the OPT101 and the ADC just in case the output of the OPT101 isn't able to work well with whatever ADC the customer chooses.  (All op amp drivers break down at some point, it's really just good design practice.)

The OPT301 also has response into the IR range, and is available in a Hermetic package.  It has a split supply as well, allowing for different configurations than the OPT101.

Let us know how else we can assist.
