Time-of-Flight OPT8241

1. Since 3DToF Systems are highly configurable, it is recommended to use the 3D ToF System Estimator Tool to simulate and check the feasibility of your application. Also, the intuition on trade-offs is explained in this document - Introduction to the Time-of-Flight (ToF) System Design (Rev. D) .

2. This is mentioned in the OPT9221 datasheet in the "DDR2 interface sub-section". 128mbits is the minimum size recommended. The recommended part number is MT47H32M16NF-25E:H (This is 512mbits)

3. Some of these details are explained in this document - Introduction to the Time-of-Flight (ToF) System Design (Rev. D) . ToF systems give better results at higher frequency because the same phase error translates to lower distance error at higher frequencies. LEDs usually dont work well beyond 24-30MHz. Therefore, beyond such frequencies, it is recommended to use lasers. The TI ToF sensors usually work best in the range of 50MHz to 60MHz. Therefore, to make best of us TI ToF, lasers can be used. The downsides are that the cost of lasers may be slightly on the higher side when compared to LEDs and lasers need much more safety certification work as compared to LEDs. OPT8241 always needs an external laser/led driver ckt. We don't have an internal driver within OPT8241.

I noticed that you saying OPT8241 need external driver for LED/laser driving, but I could not find reference circuit in datasheets. Could you give me some recommand on this circuit? do TI has any suitable driver for this application?

I see that the user's guide is now up for the CDK.  What we are looking for is a reference design (schematics, symbols, layout and register reference/programming guide for the OPT9221).  Is TI planning to release this information?

I would like to know who is the manufacturer of the 3d lens (part number 1LS1097F-H).

thanks for the information about the lens, but I have an additional question:

I have two kits, an older one (Serial 84019...) and a newer one (91874...). They apparently have different lenses, as you can see from the picture below. Also the amplitude image seems to be brighter for the newer one.

Could you tell me which lens is mounted on which kit with specifications of the lens and which one will be used in the future?

The newer lens, 1LS1097F will be continued on the EVMs.This is the lens which appears to have a dent.

The "dent" that appears on the lens is expected. It isn't an actual dent but an artefact of the lens shape. If you try to feel the dent with a pair of wooden tweezers (while taking care to not scratch the lens), you will see that the lens shape is not dented on the outside.
