LDC1101EVM drivers not found using Windows 7

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LDC1101EVM, LDC1101, LDC1000EVM

I just purchased and tried to install and use the LDC1101EVM on my Windows 7 system, but Windows cannot find a MSP430-USB Example driver and so I can't run the LDC1101EVM GUI. The LDC1101EVM User's Guide says the driver is "already on the computer", but Windows cannot find a driver and will not use the device. How do I get Windows 7 to recognize the device and find a driver?

  • I also tried to install and use the LDC1101EVM on my Windows XP machine and got the same result - Windows was unable to find a driver for the device and so the GUI could not access it, so I CANNOT USE THE LDC1101EVM to evaluate the LDC1101 device for my embedded application. Why is TI selling this evaluation tool without drivers? I have a useless chunk of electronics which is completely unusable because TI can't figure out how to provide a driver?

As far as I can tell, there is no explanation anywhere as to how to get a driver for the LDC1101EVM.

  • Hello Daniel,

My apologies for the driver problems. The drivers are included - the driver should be automatically installed. You can try to reinstall the GUI (please run the installer with admin privileges), and the first time you run the GUI run it as admin.

You can also try installing the LDC1000EVM GUI, as the same driver is used.

    Regards,

    ChrisO

  • Chris - Thanks for the response. I tried your first suggestion, reinstalling the GUI with admin privileges and guess what - there is NO DRIVER INSTALLED by the LDC1101EVM installation software. I agree with you when you say "the driver should be automatically installed". Unfortunately that is not the case with your current release of the LDC1101EVM GUI software. I think you should try the installation on a machine that does not already have the driver, and you will discover - there is no driver installed by the LDC1101EVM installation software. I suggest you fix your software release or post an errata explaining the work-around, which is your second suggestion, install the LDC1000EVM GUI software - which DOES install a driver.

By installing the LDC1000EVM GUI software, I was able to get a driver that worked for the LDC1101EVM.

    Thanks again,
    Daniel McKenna
  • I have tried to install the LDC1101EVM GUI on a PC running Windows 10. The LDC1101EVM Virtual COM port appears in Device Manager as COM5 however the list of available COM ports in the GUI dropdown is empty. Refresh does nothing. I have tried this on two separate machines and have also installed the LDC1100 driver software as a previous post suggested to no avail. There are also real physical COM ports on this machine that don't show up in the list.

Why can't the LDC1101EVM GUI recognize any COM Ports even though they appear to be installed properly in Device Manager?

  • 7536.NI_Visa_RT_installer.zipHi Daniel,

There appears to be an issue in the way the Labview portion of the installer handles the RT Visa install. Please try running the attached file; I do not know if it will run on windows 10; but this has resolved the issue on windows 7.

  • I had the same problem. I installed RT Visa and now it works (in windows 10).

I have in another post remarked that data stops or sampling go slower for some samples at the start of the block.

Response Time = 192, the rest is as startup.

Moving some metal by hand 1 -10 mm in front of coil. Look around  sample 1500 and sample 5000.

  • Hello ChrisO,
today my LDC1101EVM has arrived and I was faced with the same problem. ( Windows 7 machine). After installing LDC1000EVM the port COM4 has appeared, but only in Windows, not in LDC1101 GUI. I have unistalled LDC1101 GUI and tried to install it again after the COM4 was available, but the installation did not start, saying that it is already installed. I have cleaned registry with CC cleaner, but no effect. How it is possible to remove the information that GUI is already installed ? I have even downloaded the zip file again, but the same effect. Probably somewhere in my PC in very hidden place there is and information about previous installation. The restart of PC does not help either.

  • Hello,

I just tried to install -> Check that it works -> Uninstall -> Install -> Check that it works cycle for LDC1101 GUI. All worked out ok. (Win7)

Can you check that the GUI was properly uninstalled? By default it's placed to C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\LDC1101 EVM GUI

  • I had the same issue. Installing the gui for LDC1000EVM worked for me. I suggest changing the LDC1101 to include the drivers.
