High-Resolution rotational position sensing with the LDC1000

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00508

Would it be possible to produce a high resolution, rotational position sensor with the LDC1000 ? I read in the datasheet that sub-micron accuracy is possible with this device.

My ideal requirements would be for a largish diameter coil, around 100 to 120mm outer diameter with a hollow centre of at least 50mm for cables to pass through the centre. The coil would be mounted on either the stator or rotor of a largish diameter direct-drive, 3-phase PMSM motor, and the sensor would, of course, need to be on the other half of the motor.

I'd also be looking for 20 to 22-bit positional accuracy in a 360 degree turn, and absolute position measurement if that's possible.

I've no idea whether any or all of this is possible but I thought I should ask before delving too deeply into this myself.

Thanks,

Geoff
