Hello,

I am currently working with the TDC1000-TDC7200EVM for an underwater distance measurement on a small submarine.

The GUI provided is very useful and helped me a lot, but I want to use the given software and modify it to allow my system to be self reconfigurable. I cannot just flash the parameters once and let it work.

To do that, the board has a jumper set (J1) which is unpopulated but with all JTAG wires. Can I use a launchpad (e.g. the MSP430F5529 Launchpad) and use the JTAG emulator to flash the board?

Or can I just simply use the USB cable? It doesn't seem possible, but I prefer to ask, we never know.

Eric,
There are many ways to reflash code into the board. I would recommend populating J1 and using a JTAG debugger (TI's FET probe etc. www.ti.com/.../msp-fet) as that will let you do debugging etc.

You already have the firmware running on the MSP430 if you've downloaded the GUI. Its a Code Composer Project as a reference on how to configure and communicate to TDC1000.

Ok but what about my question?
If I don't want to use the JTAG debugger but do as I said, is it possible?

Is it enough to connect the following wires to eachother?

TDI, TDO, TMS, TCK, RST, TEST and GND.

I solved my problem, I used the MSP430F5529 launchpad's SPI-Bi-Wire (SBW RST, SBW TEST and GND) instead to connect it to the TDC1000-TDC7200EVM.
Works perfectly, and I can even debug with it :)

Eric,
You can also upgrade the firmware directly from the GUI using the "Upgrade Firmware" button in debug tab. The GUI has a built-in "Firmware upgrade app" that is invoked when this button is pressed. You don't need JTAG in this method. It programs through the USB port only. As long as you have a firmware hex file generated for your custom code (both CCS and IAR allows you to generate firmware hex file), you can program this way.
