Max board thickness for Coil design

Hello, I was trying to design a coil for the LDC1000 using the Webbench coil designer and Noticed that there is a max layer spacing of 60 mils.  Is this a hard cut off?  The standard board thickness we use here is 62.8mil will this be a problem?  If I exclude the top and bottom layer thickness from the stackup it is closer to 58mils, with tolerancing I would exceed the 60 mil max.

  • Hi Joe,

There is no issue with using a thickness of 64mil for the PCB. You will have slightly less coupling, and so the inductance will be slightly lower due to the increased thickness.

We have made many 2 layer sensors with 64mil thickness and they work fine for LDC applications.
