TDC7200 Standard Deviation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDC7200, TDC7200EVM

Dear Technical Support Team,

Datasheet of TDC7200 describes below.

TSTD-2 Standard Deviation (Mode 2)

Measured time = 100 μs : 50 ps

Measured time = 1 μs : 35 ps

But TDC7200EVM user guide "Figure 8. Graphing" shows 146.368ps for Standard Deviation(STDEV)

to measure 19us between start and stop signal.

It seems that TDC7200EVM measurement of Standard Deviation is bigger than datasheet spec.

Dose it happen from cable length and board trace?

Best Regards,

y.i

  • Hello Y.I.,
It depends on how good (jitter free) the input source is. The data sheet numbers are obtained with very precise low jitter pulse generator like Tektronix DTG5078. The user manual is illustrating use of the board and TDC7200 operation with a more common function generator like Tektronix AFG3102 (with a typical rms jitter of 200ps).
    Thanks,
