TDC1000-TDC7200EVM not recognised in device manager or in the GUI

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDC1000

I have installed the GUI software for the TDC1000-TDC7200EVM but it is not being recognised on device manager and D2 on the board also isnt on indicating a problem with the physical connection? The power light (D4) is on.

As you can see there is no FW REVISION and I am not able to update the firmware because my laptop does not recognise the device.

I am plugged directly into the USB ports of the laptop and not through a USB hub.

I have tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the GUI and then restarting the laptop but that didnt work either, any other suggestions?

  • Hello Martin,

Please refer to the TDC1000_7200EVM user's manual page 21 (section 6.3) and follow the steps listed. That should help in fixing this issue.

    Thanks,

    Vishy

  • I have followed those instructions but they did not fix the issue. I have tested the physical connection to the laptop and it seems ok and the jumpers have been installed correctly and I downloaded the software (TDC1000-TDC7200EVM GUI v1.2.7.1 (Rev. F) ) from this page

    www.ti.com/.../TDC1000-TDC7200EVM Documents

I have also tried using a different USB cable to connect the board to the laptop but it still does not show up in device manager. I am unable to update the firmware as per my second screenshot as the button is greyed out because the GUI does not detect the device.

To me it seems like the drivers are not working on the board but I have not figured out how to fix this, despite uninstalling and reinstalling the software.

    Do you have any advice?
  • If as described in the document, you saw "MSP430-USB-Example" as the device and you followed the steps and updated the driver, was it successful or did you get windows error that this is not the right driver?

Please let me know what's the operating system you are using? Windows 7 is our recommended operating system. If you are using windows 7, please confirm you are not running windows over some virtual machine. We do not support virtual machines and we get into driver issues.

Other step you could try is to follow the enclosed document to update your firmware.  Note you need to follow step 4: You have to press the SW1 button and connect the USB cable, so the msp430 device enters bootstrap mode (BSL mode) . Then you can update flash firmware.

    Thanks,

    Vishy

  • Thanks Vishy, your suggestion to hold down SW1 and then connect the USB cable into the laptop allowed the device to be recognised, it came up as a "USB Input Device". Then I was able to follow the steps to update the firmware as the GUI was able to find the device. I do not think it was very clear in the user manual that you had to hold down SW1 before connecting the USB cable to the PC.
