LDC1101: shielding or focussing on a certain sensing area

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LDC1101

Dear TI-Team,

I would like to add an inductive proximity sensor into an existing design like given in the drawing below.

The LDC1101 will be on the main PCB that also contains some microcontroller and huge capacitors. The sensing coil shall be about 20mm above it. Above the sensing coil there will be a production line carrying small disks of ferro metal (diameter = 27mm, h = 0,1mm, distance = 5 ... 12 mm, wanted sample rate > 10ksps, wanted distance resolution better than 0,1mm).

My question is: can I shield the sensing coil somehow from the big metal (capacitors, PCB with ground plane, digital noise of the circuitry? My idea is to use a disk of ferrite or perhaps one half of a pot core (high frequency material) between the sensing coil and the PCB to concentrate the magnetic field into the direction of the ferro metal disks. What would you suggest? Are there any app notes I did not find on TI's homepage?

Thank you very much for your hints!

Best regards,
