Using Separate Transmit/Receive Transducers with TDC1000-TDC7200EVM for Time of Flight Measurement

Hello,

I was just looking to confirm that removing resistor R41 would allow me to use separate transmit and receive transducers with channel 2 (TX2/RX1). Are there any issues with doing this with regards to the time of flight application?

Thanks,

Andrew

  • Andrew,
You are correct. Removing R41/R42 is recommended for dual transducer use. You can also refer to the TDC1000-BSTEVM schematics as its configured for this mode of operation.

Also you'll be utilizing Measurement Mode 1 in that topology. See datasheet section 8.4.1.
    -regards,
  • Great! Can I do this and leave R42 in place so that I can easily switch between using a single transducer and two transducer setup with the appropriate GUI settings? I'd like to be able to use either a single transducer or two transducers without having to resolder the board. Actually, if I understand mode 1 correctly, would I even have to remove either of the resistors to use 2 transducers in mode 1?
  • Andrew,
Sorry I misunderstood your initial question. You don't need to remove any resistors for dual transducer use on that EVM. You can swap between single and dual using the mode register I mentioned above. To clarify:

Single transducer mode (with the EVM unchanged):
    1. connect transducer (let's call it XDCR1) to TX1/RX2 (J5- pin 8/10) and GND (J5-pin 9)
    2. Select measurement mode 0/ channel 0

Dual transducer mode (with the EVM unchanged):
    1. connect transducer (let's call it XDCR1) to TX1/RX2 (J5- pin 8/10) and GND (J5-pin 9)
    2. connect transducer (let's call it XDCR2) to TX2/RX1 (J5- pin 12/14) and GND (J5-pin 11)
    3. Select measurement mode 1/ channel 0 to XMT on XDCR1 and receives on XDCR2
    4. Select measurement mode 1/ channel 1 to XMT on XDCR2 and receives on XDCR1

    Regards,
