LMT01 output connection to the ground

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMT01

Good day Colleagues,

Could you tell me, is it possible to connect the output of the LMT01 to the ground? Or current thru the sensor should be limited?

Thank you, Mikhail

  • Hi Mikhail,
It is mentioned in datasheet that it is possible:
VN Output Negative voltage pin - may be connected to system ground or a bias resistor.

But how could you get the data in this way?

  • Hi Timur,

Yes, you are right, I assume the current is limited to 143uA thru the sensor. There is no way to get the data this way.
I am asking to understand is there is any limitations to direct power supply connection.

    Mike
  • Hi Mike,

LMT01 is an output current device, and generates a low and high current of typical value 34µA and 125µA respectively. If you decide to short VN pin to ground, in order to read the pulse count you must have a bias resistor to power supply by tapping on the VP pin. The LMT01 needs at least 2V drop across VP and VN. In this configuration, assuming 2V drop across the LMT01 you will see the pulse count shift up by 2V; therefore, you can't use the GPIO to read the pulse count temperature. You might need a comparator to translate the signal to logic one and zero or add transistor if you want to use GPIO.

    Hope this helps!

  • Good day Aaron,

    Thank you for answer.

Could you tell me are there any limitations if I will connect the pins to power supply and ground simultaneously?

I know, it works like the current output device, but my question is based on possibility to save the wires on the cable.

    Thank you, Mikhail

  • Hi Mikhail,

I don't quite understand your question. Could you please draw a diagram? Thanks.
