TDC1000-TDC7200 and fluid level

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDC1000, TDC7200

Hello Everyone.

I am using a board with TDC1000 and TDC7200 and ultrasonic sensor intended to measure level/fluid id in plastic tank.  I just simply attach the sensor with the tank at the bottom using adhesive tape and initiate a measurement by sending a number of TX pulses and got an echo back. However I am getting different result for same TDC1000-TDC7200 configuration and tank with same level.

What could cause the variation on measurement results?  What are the possible factors (external and internal) that can affect the measurement process?

Here is the setting used where Multiple Echo receive mode is enabled, ShortTOF is disabled and maximum value is set for TimingREG.

NUM_TX= 3, NUM_RX = 1

PGA_GAIN = 21dB

ECHO_QUAL_THLD =  -220 mV

SHORT_TOF_BLNK_PRD= 32uS

AUTOZERO_PERIOD = 32uS

Is it a must to use adhesive glue to attach and hot glue for acoustic dampening?

Thanks

  • Hello,

    It is critical to have a solid connection between the transducer and the medium. If the connection is not tight, then the SNR will be reduced. It is possible to have a change in the TOF measurement of one or more periods of the transducer in a poor SNR condition.
