TMP108 Interrupt mode alert output reset questions

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP108

Questions on TMP108:

  • In INTERRUPT mode, is ALERT output assertion persistent after the temperature threshold is exceeded even though the temperature goes back within the threshold?  This assumes that Master does not read/clear any TMP108 registers after ALERT assertion.
  • In INTERRUPT mode, could you confirm that onlythese activities can clear the ALERT output assertion?
    • Read operation of config register
    • SMBus alert response
    • Reseting TMP108 with reset command

Thank you,

Jay

  • Hi Jay,

Let me review this, and get back to you soon.

  • Thank you Aaron.

  • Hi Jay,

When the ALERT output is asserted after the temperature reach to above the high temperature threshold, the temperature falls back within the threshold temperature range. The only way the device can de-assert when perform a read of the configuration or ARA response. That's being said, device can be clear the output by read the operation of the configuration register, ARA response, and reset command.

Hope this answer your question. If you have any other question, please feel free to contact me again.

  • Hi Aaron,

This doesn't seem to make sense:
"When the ALERT output is asserted after the temperature reach to above the high temperature threshold, the temperature falls back within the threshold temperature range. "

What happens after the temperature falls back within the threshold?

    Jay
  • Hi Jay,

Sorry for the confusion. Wrote too fast, and without proofreading. There will nothing happens.

  • Hi Jay,

I realized that it would better to reply directly to your questions in order to prevent confusion.

•In INTERRUPT mode, is ALERT output assertion persistent after the temperature threshold is exceeded even though the temperature goes back within the threshold?  This assumes that Master does not read/clear any TMP108 registers after ALERT assertion.

Reply> Yes it will remain asserted even if the temperature falls below the high threshold-hyst or goes above the low threshold+hyst.

•In INTERRUPT mode, could you confirm that onlythese activities can clear the ALERT output assertion?

    •Read operation of config register

    •SMBus alert response

    •Reseting TMP108 with reset command

Reply > According to the datasheet this is correct. That is, if the last statement is referring to a general call reset command. Reading other registers or writing to the configuration register will not clear the ALERT output.

    I found this comment:

After Writing Limits Always READ the CNFG register, Because that will Clear Any

ALERT set during Writing. READING OF CNFG reg is MUST after LIMIT Update

Would you like for us to validate this on the bench?

Do you have a customer with an issue?
